Three breweries, three useful starting points
Start with Green Bench for an EDGE District beer garden, Grand Central Brewhouse for its lager program and multiple gathering spaces, or St. Pete Brewing Company for a downtown taproom with published stout and Scottish ale examples. Hawthorne belongs in the broader beer comparison as a bottle shop, not as another brewery.
Green Bench: decide which space you want
Green Bench’s tasting room and beer garden give you an EDGE District anchor. Its neighboring Webb’s City Cellar has separate visiting information. If a cellar visit is what drew you there, check that schedule specifically. An open brewery tasting room does not prove that every associated space is available.
Grand Central Brewhouse: lager and a group setting
The Central Avenue brewery emphasizes lager and describes a two-story taproom, garden, and terrace. It also offers a way to order food from neighboring LALA. For a group, choose a meeting space and check whether a private booking is needed. The published after-9 p.m. 21+ policy matters when the outing includes younger guests.
St. Pete Brewing: a downtown malt-focused starting point
Grateful Stout and Scottish Ale are examples from the brewery’s own beer descriptions. They offer a way to begin a conversation with the bartender if you like roasted or malt-led flavors. Do not treat those examples as a promise that the same taps are available daily. Ask what is pouring and what the serving options are.
When a bottle shop is the better fit
Hawthorne offers wine and craft beer in Grand Central. It may fit a group that is not specifically seeking beer brewed on site, particularly when wine drinkers are part of the plan. Ask about the current selection and whether a bottle is intended for on-site drinking or takeaway before comparing prices.
Choose one brewery before building a crawl
A single brewery can be the whole outing. Check the current tap list, food arrangement, seating, and any event on your date. If you add a second stop, look at the actual route and transport first. These venues are in different downtown and Central Avenue clusters; this guide does not assume a timed walking route between all of them.
